Bangalore: Abdul Nasir Ma’dani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore bomb blast case, has been shifted to Agarwal Eye Hospital Bangalore for medical treatment as per a direction from the Supreme Court.

The apex court had on Monday directed the Karnataka government to immediately shift Ma’dani, to a hospital for eye treatment as per the latest medical report dated October 17. A Bench of Justices H.L. Gokhale and J. Chelameswar gave this direction even as counsel for Karnataka Anitha Shenoy sought two weeks time to file a counter in the bail petition filed by Ma’dani in the case.

The jail authorities got a copy of the order on Wednesday evening.

Dr Neeresh of Agarwal Hospital will lead the medical team treating on the PDP leader.

The Supreme Court had also allowed Ma’dani’s wife Sufiya to be with him as his bystander during the course of treatment. She reached Bangalore earlier the day.

The latest medical report of Ma’dani, handed over to the court by his counsels Prashant Bhushan and Haris Beeran, had stated that there was severe damage to Ma’dani’s left eye due to lack of follow-up treatment. There were chances of irreparable injury, the report stated, if immediate action was not taken. It prescribed immediate surgery and use of a certain type of injection.
