Kozhikode: A day after the Industries Department issued an order cancelling mining licence, a new controversy has erupted after reports that former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem’s relative had received bribes to grant permission for mining licence at Chakkittapara in Kozhikode.

"Naushad, a relative of former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem had received bribes to grant permission for mining at Chakkittapara," Naushad's driver Subair told reporters on Tuesday.

The State Industries Department Monday had cancelled the mining licence given to the Karnataka-based MSPL company at Chakkittapara.

Denying the charges, CPI-M State secretariat member Elamaram Kareem has said let the media investigate it.

“The person who raised the allegations is an accused in the Vailathur sex racket case. People know what kind of a person he is,” said Kareem.

“Persons like K.Surendran is using it for the political benefits,” he said.
