Thiruvananthapuram: As the CPI-M's three-day plenum draws to an end at Palakkad after discussions focused on matters lofty and moral, Deshabhimani, the party organ, Friday featured an advertisment from controversial businessman V.M Radhakrishnan, also known as 'Chakku' Radhakrishnan.
The front page of the publication features an advertisement of the Surya Group of Companies, featuring also a picture of V.M. Radhakrishnan, who heads the company, wishing the party all success at the plenum.
Radhakrishnan, charged by the Central Bureau of Investigation with murder, is currently out on bail. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau also had registered cases against him in connection with the corruptions in the public-sector Malabar Cements Ltd (MCL).
Radhakrishnan began his career as a small-time contractor with the Palakkad-based Malabar Cements, and later rose to control all major contracts of the profit-making cement manufacturer. He also entered into close association with top political leaders, across parties, in the State.
Meanwhile, Radhakrishnan claimed that there was nothing new in the reaction to the advertisement.
"I had given advertisement to Veekshenam (Congress party organ) wishing KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala’s ‘Kerala Yathra’. It should be asked to Deshabhimani at what situation they carried the advertisement,” said Radhakrishnan.
“I have not gone after anyone for the advertisement to get published. It’s my marketing strategy,” he said.
