Kochi: In another haul of smuggled gold in Kerala airports, the Income Tax department seized gold bars weighing 9.5 kg at the Kochi International Airport here Friday night.
The gold, worth about Rs 3 crore, was seized from Thrissur-resident Jerin who arrived in an Indigo Nation aircraft from Delhi.
The police and the Income Tax officials, who worked on a tip off from the Intelligence wing, nabbed Jerin while he was about to leave the airport in a car.
Jerin has reportedly told the police that the gold was for a jewelry shop in Thrissur.
He has been found of tax evasion of around 30 lakhs. The officials said that gold would be given to him back once he paid the tax amount.
Jerin has not been arrested, the police said.
