Kottayam: In the view of the recent reports of irregularities taking place in the prisons in the State, the government has deiced to enhance monitoring systems in the prisons to prevent violation of rules.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, while talking to reporters here on Saturday, said various changes were being introduced to improve the functioning of the prisons.

A control room, functioning round-the-clock, will be established at the headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. The facility will ensure centralised monitoring of all prisons with modern technologies under the super vision of ADGP T.P. Sen Kumar, the minister said.

He said jail inmates creating trouble would be placed under surveillance and a strict ban would be enforced on the use of mobile phones and other prohibited items.
