Organs of brain-dead woman to be harvested

Kozhikode: Setting an example even in time of grief, relatives of a woman, who was declared brain dead, have come forward to donate her organs.

Prameela of Kozhikode was declared brain dead at Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) here on December 16 where she was admitted following a fall from a staircase at home the previous day, hospital sources said.

Her husband Rathnakaran, working in CISF, Chennai, informed hospital authorites their willingness to donate her organs, sources said.Prameela's organs will be donated to five other people, hospital sources said.

Her kidneys will be harvested and donated to two different patients at MIMS Hospital. Liver will be transplanted to a patient in AIMS, Kochi as per the waiting list of Kerala Organ Sharing Authority for liver patients and cornea will be donated to Comtrust Hospital here, hospital sources said.
