Thiruvananthapuram: The Justice Ramachandran Nair Fare Revision Committee has recommended an increase in the bus fare from the present level of Rs. 6 to Rs. 7.

The committee has also recommended a hike in the fare per km to 5 paise. A decision on the implementation of the panel report will be taken at the next Cabinet meeting.

Minister for Power and Transport Aryadan Mohammed on Friday had said the court directive had made it mandatory to conduct a scientific study by an expert committee on the issue before effecting a hike in bus fares.

The Minister had also said the government was awaiting the report of the Ramachandran Nair Fare Revision Committee to take a decision on the bus fare hike.
