Kozhikode: The Catholic Church has again come out strongly against the Kasturirangan reports on conservation of the Western Ghats, stating that uncertainty over the implementation of the report still persists.
A new pastoral letter, issued by Thamarassery diocese, read out in churches during the Sunday mass today voiced serious concerns that the implementation of the recommendations would result in large-scale displacement of people settled on the slopes of the mountain range for generations.
Saying that some vested interest groups are trying to suppress the people’s fight for the cause, the letter has also urged the people to come forward unitedly to face the crisis during the protest against the Western Ghats reports.
This is the second time that the Thamarassery diocese has came out with a special circular to reiterate its stance.
