Kochi: The Central Excise Department is likely to interrogate actor Dileep on Monday to collect details regarding the source of the money that they recovered during a raid at his residence in Aluva.
Officials of the Central Excise Department issued a notice to Dileep directing him to present himself before the Assistant Commissioner (Preventive) office at 10.30 a.m on Monday.
The service tax wing of the Central Excise Department raided the residences and offices of seven film personalities, including actor Dileep and director Lal Jose, in and around the city on Saturday.
Top department officials said they had recovered Rs 13 lakh from Dileep's residence and seized several records from his premises as well as from those of the other film personalities.
Officials of the Preventive headquarters of the Department said the film personalities had evaded service tax on film-related activities such as acting and distribution.
“The modus operandi adopted to evade Service Tax was to receive direct payment by cash cheque for only a small portion of remuneration for acting in movies and to get the balance through distribution rights of the movies. For the purpose, different distribution companies were set up by the actor and his associates,” the Customs Commissioner said.
