Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Nikhil Kumar has served a show-cause notice to Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.V George, seeking explanation on the issue of misrepresenting his qualifications.
Dr. A.V George has been given one week’s time to reply to the show-cause notice.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had sent a report to the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the universities in the State, against Dr A.V. George pointing out serious charges of misappropriation and irregularities against him.
Sources said that the Chief Minister forwarded the report prepared by Additional Chief Secretary K. M. Abraham saying that the VC’s decision to fix his own salary at 80,000 was a violation of norms as it was the prerogative of the Chancellor to fix the salaries of VCs.
The report stated that the Vice-Chancellor was appointed by flouting UGC norms. It also pointed out flaws in sanctioning off-campus centres and the creation of new posts.
The Governor had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Dr. George for creating 56 posts in the university without the approval of the government and sanctioning 77 off-campus centres.
