Kochi: The hotels across the State will observe a shut-down Friday to protest the steep hike in the price of commercial LPG cylinders, which came into effect on 1 January.
Representative of the Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association (KHRA) announced that around 125000 hotels and restaurants in the state would remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm.
In a press conference here on Thursday, the association officials sought an immediate withdrawal of the price hike.
An Rs 385 hike has been tapped on a single cylinder which was earlier cost Rs 1798. Since hotels generally use three cylinders in a day, they have to bear an extra cost of around Rs 1200 a day, the officials said.
This will affect the functioning of medium-range hotels, they added.
