Kozhikode: The factional feud in the CPI-M in Koyilandi has worsened as Keezhariyur Panchayat vice president Hareendran resigned from the post on Sunday.

Following the deadlock, the party decided to postpone the convention of the Koyilandi constituency which was to be held Sunday.

Taking the factional feud to a boiling point, K Santha, Koyilandi municipal chairperson and wife of suspended leader N V Balakrishnan, had quit on Saturday.

In her resignation paper handed over to CPI-M district secretary T K Ramakarishnan, Santha, party area committee member, cited her inconvenience to continue in the post because of the factionalism in the party area committee. Santha is one of the eight members who objected to the action against Balakrishnan, former party Koyilandi area secretary, by the 18-member area committee on Sunday.

The official faction-led Koyilandy area committee of the party decided on Thursday to suspend Balakrishnan, a V S Achuthanandan loyalist, following party infighting.
