Kochi: KPCC president and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday said that the Congress high command would announce the new chief of the state unit of the party after January 9.
“I will attend the meeting along with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Delhi on January 9. The name of the new chief will probably be announced after that,” Chennithala said.
He added that the announcement would not be based on any factional affiliation.
“Media must not decide who the KPCC president should be. Media reports about the appointment are not true,” he said adding media should refrain from spreading such reports.
The favourite name being suggested for the post is of Legislative Speaker G. Karthikeyan.
The other aspirants to the coveted post are senior Congress leader V. M. Sudheeran, Union Minister of State for Home Mullapally Ramachandran, AICC secretary V. D. Satheeshan, KPCC Vice President M. M. Hassan, Kannur MP K. Sudhakaran and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K. C. Venugopal.
