K R Gowriamma backtracks from ‘CM-offer’ remarks

Thodupuzha: JSS supremo K R Gowriamma has backtracked from her remarks that the CPI-M leadership negotiated with her through mediators with an offer for the post of chief minister ahead of the 2006 polls.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Gowriamma said that nobody had invited her offering chief minster post. “They invited me to join CPI-M, but did not offer any post. The media twisted it,” she said.

“I told to them that I would discuss that with the party and inform them.”

Gowriamma further said her party would stand independent if it leaves the UDF. “JSS has the capability to decide who should win the election in some constituencies,” she added.

Talking further about the ‘CPI-M offer,’ Gowriamma had said that it was a tactic by the CPI-M to avoid V S Achuthanandan from being chosen for the post.

CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, however, rebuffed her remarks. "Anybody who knows about the organizational set-up of the CPI-M and the functioning of the party knows how much fact there could be in a statement that the CPI-M offered the chief minister's post to an outsider," Vijayan told a news conference.
