Oman: A 36-year-old Indian craftsman allegedly committed suicide in Oman by hanging himself from a ceiling fan, a newspaper reported.

Santhosh, a resident of Kerala, was an employee at an antique shop in Muttrah region.

He was found hanging from a fan in his single-room accommodation on Sunday, Times of Oman reported quoting the deceased's friends.

According to them, he seemed worried due to certain health conditions, the newspaper said.

"He had gone for treatment to India about two months back. He was suffering from some blood-related diseases. Since his mother is also ailing, it troubled him a lot and he was eager to go back as soon as possible," one of his friends said.

"His sponsor was also ready to send him back on leave for treatment, but we do not know what prompted him to take this drastic step," he said.

"On Sunday, we had a meeting with his sponsor. Santhosh was also present there. The sponsor assured him that he would keep ready the ticket for his return today (Monday), but after all such assurances, Santhosh took this drastic step," they said.

After the meeting with the sponsor, his friends went to their work place and Santhosh returned to his room and reportedly committed suicide at around 10 pm. His family was staying in Oman and left only a few months ago.

Santhosh is survived by his wife and two children.

Earlier, Anil Kumar from Kerala was found dead in his accommodation after he had reportedly slit his throat with a knife in Oman on December 30 last year.
