Los Angeles: Actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will return for the next three instalments of the "Avatar" franchise.

James Cameron will direct and produce it along with his partner Jon Landau, reports variety.com.

Fox Studios recently announced that there would be three more sequels and that Cameron had hired screenwriters Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno to collaborate with him on the screenplays for "Avatar 2", "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4".

"Avatar 2" will hit the theatres in December 2016.
