CPI refuses to comment on BJP dissidents joining CPI-M

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Panniyan Raveendran on Wednesday refused to make any remark on some of the BJP dissidents, who had formed the NaMo Vichar Manch, joining CPI-M in Kannur district.

“CPI will not interfere in the affairs of the CPI-M. Let them discuss the pros and cons of taking the NaMo Vichar Manch activists in the party,” Panniyan said.

Asked about his party’s plans for the Lok Sabha elections, Panniyan said CPI would contest in four constituencies.

Taking the NaMo Vichar Manch (NVM) workers in CPI-M has invited opposition from many, including Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan.

Achuthanandan had even written to the Politburo about the move of the CPI (M) Kannur unit, which is dominated by his rival camp led by state secretary Pinaray Vijayan.

Vijayan, who too is from Kannur, attended the meeting in the district to welcome the former BJP workers on Tuesday. The dissidents are led by former BJP district president O.K. Vasu and secretary A. Asokan.
