Thrissur: Deputy leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited the nine accused persons, who were sentenced to life by a special court in Kozhikode over the murder of TP Chandrasekharan, at Viyyur Central Prison here on Saturday.
Talking to reporters after the visit outside the prison, the CPI-M leader said that the nine prisoners were subjected to ‘brutal’ torture.
Seeking a high-level inquiry into the incident, the CPI-M leader asked the Home Minster to intervene in the matter immediately.
“The TP murder case accused are also humans. It is a violation of prison laws to persecute those who have already been punished by the court. it should be brought out that who gave the direction to torture the prisoners,” said the former Home Minister.
He also called on the Human Rights Commission to give a visit to the jail.
CPI-M Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan, Thrissur district secretary A C Moideen, and Babu M Palissery MLA also accompanied Kodiyeri to the hail.
