New Delhi: Some of the top leaders of the Kerala unit of the BJP have come out against the party’s decision to field State General Secretary K Surendran in the Kasargod constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Veteran BJP leader O Rajagopal, National Secretary P K Krishnadas, Mahila Morcha State President Shobha Surendran and A N Radhakrishnan on Saturday conveyed the central leadership of the party their dissidence against the declaration.
Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu had, at a party function in Kasargod on Friday, declared that Surendran would be the BJP’s candidate in Kasargod constituency.
The state leaders, however, say that the declaration was without the knowledge of the state leadership.
As a sign of the widening division in the state BJP, Shobha Surendran had, earlier this week, written to the central leadership seeking removal of state president V Muraleedharan from the post.
In the letter to National President Rajnath Singh and BJP prime ministererial candidate Narendra Modi, Shobha accused Muraleedharan of behaving like an autocrat.
Muraleedharan does not focus on party activities. He does not play any constructive role in the party affairs, Shobha accused in the letter.
