Thrissur: The Thrissur district sessions judge K P Jothindranath visited the Viyyur Central Jail on Thursday morning following the allegations of maltreatment in the jail against T.P murder case accused.

Relatives of the accused, who is observing a fast in front of the jail over the alleged roughing up, had filed a complaint before the district judge.

The LDF Opposition had raised the issue in the Assembly on Monday, alleging that the convicts in the case were beaten up by the prison wardens in violation of rules and human rights.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, however, had denied the charge and said it was the prisoners who actually misbehaved towards the prison Superintendent and other employees.

A delegation of CPI-M leaders had visited the jail on Saturday following reports of maltreatment towards them.
