First magic-themed complex to come up in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: "Magic Planet", an entirely magic-themed complex claimed to be the first of its kind in India, is coming up in Thiruvananthapuram.

The magic mansion, being set up by the Academy of Magical Sciences here, will be opened at the Kinfra Film and Video Park near here on October 31, the World Magic Day, this year.

State Minister for Industries and IT P K Kunjalikutty will officially announce the project at a ceremony here on February 10, Executive Director of the Academy Gopinath Muthukad told a press meet here today.

Minister for Culture K C Jospeh will launch an animated film exploring the Magic Plant and Minister for Health V S Shivakumar will unveil its mascot 'Harry', he said.

"This is a completely unique and innovative concept. All concepts of magic are brought under one roof as part of this edutainment centre. It is designed for children to experience science, technology, art and literature through magic," he said.

The complex, spread over 1.5 acres, will house a number of attractions, including a museum which features the history of magic from 5000 BC, an underground tunnel, a mirror maze, a virtual supermarket to build mathematical skills, a children's park, a food court, theatres for live performances and a Research and development centre.

A 'magical' recreation of master playwright William Shakespeare's play "The Tempest", a work which has magic as its central motif, will be one of the key attractions of the centre, he said.

"The centre will also have one area dedicated to street magicians who will showcase traditional tricks. A podium under a tree where children can gather around to listen to fables and tales recounted by a storyteller will be a novel experience for them," Muthukad added.

Renowed magician Prince Sil will introduce Magic Planet to the world with a thrilling bullet catching act preceding the official launch ceremony.
