Indias flag unfurled at Sochi Olympic village

Rosa Khutor: India’s flag has finally been raised at the mountain athletes village at Sochi, five days after the International Olympic Committee lifted a 14-month ban.

The raising of the tricolor symbolically marked the end of the suspension, a week after a new board to the Indian Olympic Association was elected.

The association’s new president, N. Ramachandran, says “I am thrilled and delighted... I don’t look into the past. I only look for the future.”

India has three athletes competing in Sochi. They carried the IOC flag during the opening ceremony on Feb. 7 and started the games as independent athletes.

Indian luger Shiva Keshavan, who finished competing before the IOC suspension was lifted, says “the symbolic change has happened, now we need to see the real change.”
