Kochi: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday said that the letter by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan calling for a probe into the source of crores of rupees spent by solar scam accused Saritha, while in prison, to settle the cases, had been handed over to the DGP.

In the letter, written to the Home Minster on Saturday, Achuthanandan had said that a probe was necessary to bring out the correct position of the case before the public.

There is no wrong-doing from the part of the government in Saritha procuring bail in all the cases related to the solar scam. Her release was just a part of the legal procedure, Chennithala said here.

There were 33 cases filed against Saritha in connection with the solar scam. As per the government’s own statistics, Rs 6 crore worth fraud has been committed in these cases.

She got bail in all the cases reportedly by paying the amount back to the complainants.

“Saritha had submitted an affidavit in the court that she and her mother had no money left with them. The government had stated in an affidavit about how she spent the Rs 6 crore she defrauded from the public. The affidavit had stated that Saritha had only Rs 70,000 with her. If that be the case, how did she manage to get bail?” Achuthanandan asked in the letter.
