Kochi: The High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to M K Pradeepan alias Lambu Pradeep, 34, the 31st accused in the sensational TP Chandrasekharan murder case.
The court granted bail to Pradeep while considering an appeal filed by the convicts in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case challenging the findings of the special court at Kozhikode, which tried the case.
Those who filed the appeal included M.C. Anoop, Kirmani Manoj, Kodi Suni, T.K. Rajeesh, K.K. Muhammed Rafi, Annan Sujith, K Shinod and K.C. Ramachandran, the first eight accused; the 11th accused Trouser Manoj, the 13 accused P.K. Kunhanandan, the18th accused P.V. Rafeeque and the 31 accused Lambu Pradeep.
They argued that their conviction and sentence passed by the trial court was incorrect, opposed to law, facts, evidence and circumstances of the case. The investigation in the case was carried out in a biased manner resulting in serious prejudice to the appellants, they said.
The appellants stated before the court that the five key witnesses in the case were procured by the prosecution at the instance of leaders of the Revolutionary Marxist Party. The five witnesses were either local leaders or active workers of the political party which the deceased Chandrasekharan had led, they submitted.
Except Lambu Pradeep, all the accused were sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court. Pradeep was awarded a prison term of three years for charges including destroying of evidence and hiding weapons.
