Kozhikode: Union Minister Mullappally Ramachandran has come down heavily on Union Minister for Environment Veerappa Moily, saying that the latter’s stand on the issue of the implementation of Kasturirangan report is against the Congress’s interest.
“The party’s final word comes from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, not from Veerappa Moily,” Mr. Mullapally told reporters here.
"Some Union Ministers’s statements on the Kasturirangan report have created apprehensions among the farmers. It is in contrast to the stand of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on the issue,” Mr. Mullapally took an indirect jibe at Mr. Moily.
"The Centre would consider the interests of the farmers," he said.
Union Minister for Environment and Forests Veerappa Moily had said that the Centre could not accept all the demands raised by Kerala. The statement had invited criticism, even within the UDF constituents.
Meanwhile, sources said Veerappa Moily has assured Defence Minister A.K Antony that a solution on the issue would be sorted out soon.
