Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the state will become the first total e-literate state in the country in near future.

Marking a milestone in the bid to become the first e-literate state, a nearby village panchayat was on Saturday declared as the first e-literate panchayat.

Oommen Chandy made the declaration of Pallichal panchayat becoming the first e-literate grass root level civic unit via video conferencing

The e-literacy programme, implemented in Pallichal, would be extended to other village panchayats in the state soon, Chandy said.

He also lauded the efforts of PN Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra, an institution promoted by the Department of General Education, in helping Pallichal to achieve the status.
