Eight found guilty in Mattannur sex racket case

Kochi: The Additional Sessions Court, Ernakulam, has found eight accused guilty in the Mattannur sex racket case. Ten persons have been acquitted for the lack of evidence.

Soja James, the first accused, and Deepak (Deepu), second accused, were found guilty by the court. Other accused are Zakaria of Aluva, Shekhar of Andaman, Siraj of Chanthiroor, Lilly James of Aluva, Abdul Rahman of Aluva and Thomas T Thomas of Vennala. The quantum of sentence will be announced this evening.

The case is that a minor was seduced offering an opportunity to act in films and was later sexually exploited by several people in the year 2009.

The case came to light when the girl was arrested from a flat in the city and was produced in the court. The case took a different turn when the court raised doubts about the age of the girl. The police further investigated the incident on court's directive.
