Aluwa: The PWD has begun demolishing the Mazhavil restaurant constructed by Ernakulam DTPC beside Aluwa river violating environment rules, following a Supreme Court direction.
The court had initiated actions against the authorities for not implementing its order and demolishing the restaurant.
The apex court had issued notices to Ernakulam district collector M G Rajamanickam and tourism secretary Suman Billa directing them to appear before it on April 28.
The notice was issued after a contempt petition filed by the Aluva-based Association for Environment Protection in connection with demolition of the restaurant here.
The association approached the apex court citing that the restaurant was constructed in violation of environment rules.
Though the PWD had sought more time to demolish the building, the Supreme Court rejected the claim and decided to issue notice to the concerned officials over the contempt petition.
