Poonjar: Kerala Congress (M) leader P C George on Friday said that the UDF campaign in the Pathanamthitta district for the 16th Lok Sabha elections held on Thursday had gone all wrong.
Saying he is not sure who would win the poll in the constituency, the government Chief Whip added the UDF candidate Anto Antony had annoyed the people.
He further said that the election was the first one the UDF workers campaigned without mutual trust.
P C George’s conspicuous absence from the poll campaign in Poonjar for Anto Antony had made headlines.
Talking to reporters here about the UDF performance, George also alleged inactivity from the part of the front-leaders. “Nobody worked honestly among the people in the root-level. There was no presence of Congress workers in the polling booths too. The election committees and booth committees also did not meet on time,” George said.
Asked about the low polling percentage in the constituency, George said it was the campaigning by A K Antony that helped make the polling percentage hit at least 65.
The lowest polling percentage of 65.90 was recorded in Pathanamthitta, which has the highest number of voters in the state, as against the state average of 73.7 per cent in the 16th Lok Sabha elections held on Thursday.
