Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the proceedings in the trial court in the Satnam Singh murder case for three months.

The court directive was while considering a petition filed by Satnam’s father seeking a CBI probe into the mysterious death.

Calling the ongoing crime branch probe into the death of Satnam Singh a mockery, Satnam's father had approached the High Court seeking a fresh probe by the CBI.

Twenty three -year-old Satnam, who was a student of the Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University in Lucknow, died in August, 2012 at the mental health centre in Thiruvananthapuram.

Satnam had been arrested from the Ashram of Matha Amrithanandamayi, when the Ashram security mistook him for a militant. As he broke line and advanced to the Mata while she was giving darshan, they suspected it to be an attempt to attack her, immobilized him and handed him over to the Karunagappally police.

Later, Satnam was shifted to the mental health centre in Thiruvananthapuram and was found dead in his cell. He was suspected to have been thrashed either by the police, or by the staff or the inmates of the mental health centre.
