Govt to impose more restrictions on campus politics

Kochi: The State government has filed an affidavit in the Kerala High Court, informing that it is planning to impose more restrictions on campus politics.

The government submitted the affidavit on Friday while hearing a plea filed by N. Prakash, a law student against the illegal activities of the student organisations on the Ernakulam Government Law College campus.

Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, said in the affidavit that more measures would be taken to restrict all forms of campus politics in the State.

The government said the additional measures could be implemented by the authorities or institution’s heads after making suitable amendments in the existing Act or Rules.

“The University statutes have not recognized the organisations like SFI, KSU, ABVP, AISF etc. They have no fundamental right or statutory right to carry out their activities within educational institutions,” the affidavit said.

A division bench of Kerala High Court December 18 had directed the state government that the functioning of the college should not get affected by the demonstration of the student organizations in the college.
