Thiruvananthapuram: The Forest department has recommended for a Crime Branch probe into the Wayanad forest fire.

Additional Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance) C.S. Yalakki, who probed the incident, said in his report that 417.83 hectares of forest were ravaged in the fire.

The report said the inquiry into the incident had found that the fire was man-made. A Crime Branch probe was recommended as the Forest department has limitations to go ahead with further actions.

A preliminary inquiry by the department into the incident had found that the cause of the fire, which was first noticed in the early morning on March 16, was man-made.

Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had directed the vigilance wing of the Forest Department to institute a detailed inquiry into the fire.
