Bar Council issues showcause notice to Adv. Thavamani

Kochi: Bar Council of Kerala Wednesday slapped a showcause notice on Advocate K Thavamony, who in a controversial move visited the residence of a sitting judge of the state high court hearing the Abkari cases, asking him to answer charges of professional misconduct.

In suo motu proceedings, council Secretary K Ajayan issued notice to the advocate asking him to give his explanation within 15 days, bar council sources said.

Justice C T Ravikumar Tuesday had recused himself from a batch of cases relating to renewal of bar licenses in the state and recalled his judgement shortly before it was to be pronounced, observing that he was approached by Adv. K Thavamony.

In an order on Tuesday, taking everyone by surprise, Justice Ravikumar said he was avoiding hearing the case. ‘Common judgement in the case is yet to be signed’, the judge said adding he was recalling the judgement.

According to the Judge, a counsel K Thavamony, came to his residence on Monday and “attempted to speak” about the issue touching the case.
