Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been identified by two victims in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The actor arrived at a Mumbai sessions court where the retrial of the case is being heard on Tuesday.
Two others injured in the hit-and-run are likely to depose shortly.
In September 2002, Khan was allegedly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser that ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra. One person was killed and four were injured in the incident.
The retrial started on April 29 with the partial deposition of one witness. On December 5 last year, the court had ordered a fresh trial after charges against the actor were enhanced to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
If the court convicts Khan, he could be in jail for up to 10 years.
The actor was earlier tried for causing death by negligence, a lesser offence, which carries a punishment of up to two years in jail.
The case has gone from court to court with arguments centred around whether the actor was driving the car that day or not.
