New Delhi: Narendra Modi, who was elected as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party in New Delhi on Tuesday, broke into tears as he thanked the BJP leaders for endorsing him as the country's next Prime Minister.
Addressing the meeting Mr. Modi said this election result has increased people's faith in democracy and there is new hope among them that this dispensation can fulfill their aspirations.
I don't believe UPA government did nothing. They did whatever they could and deserve appreciation for it, Mr. Modi added.
A hung verdict would have meant anger against the previous government but a clear verdict to BJP shows people voted for their hope and aspiration, the Prime Minister-elect said.
Mr. Modi said that he wanted to assure the people that there is no need for pessimism going by the past bad experience and that the country has huge potential.
The PM-elect also said that he is a very optimistic man and only optimistic man can bring optimismin the country.
He also said that he will try to live up to the expectations of the people and will present a report card to people in 2019.
He also added that he is not doing any favour and is only performing his duty and that this victory is a result of struggle of five generations.
