Islamabad: At least 17 people were killed and 40 others injured Monday when a bomb ripped through a bus stand in Pakistan's northwest tribal region, media reports said.
The bombing occurred around 11 a.m. in Jamrud town of Khyber agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) along the Afghan border, Xinhua reported citing state-run TV channel PTV.
The bomb was planted on a vehicle parked at a bus stand in a market area.
Geo News put the toll at 17 and the number of injured were more than 50.
The injured were taken to hospitals in Peshawar, 20 km from Jamrud. Hospital sources said some of the injured were in critical condition and the toll may rise.
At least 10 vehicles and many shops near the blast site were destroyed, the ARY TV channel reported.
TV footage showed smoke rising from the site and ambulances rushing to the place.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack.
