IUML leaders to visit Madani

Kozhikode: A team of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders would on January 2 visit Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, lodged in a Bangalore prison in connection with 2008 serial bomb blasts there.

The team led by IUML national Secretary E T Mohammed Basheer, MP, have already sought permission from the Bangalore prison authorities for meeting Madani, under judicial remand since his arrest in August 2010, party sources said.

IUML, the second largest partner of the ruling Congress-led UDF in Kerala, has been pressing for ensuring proper medical care to Madani, suffering from various ailments.

Members of both UDF and CPI-M headed LDF opposition had raised the issue of Madani in the recently concluded state Assembly session.

Madani, arrested from Kerala on August 17, 2010, has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore since then. He is among 31 people chargesheeted in the case relating to the July 2008 blasts in Bangalore, leaving one killed and 20 others injured in the incident.

The Karnataka High Court had last month rejected his bail plea but permitted him to avail treatment in hospital of his choice under police escort.
