Bansal to attend Kozhikode railway station 125th year function

Kozhikode: The 125th year commemmorative function of Kozhikode Railway Station would be inaugurated by Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal here on January 2.

Chief minister Oommen Chandy would preside over the function in which Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy and Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran would be present, Chairman of the Reception Committee for the function M K Raghavan, MP, said.

The celebrations would enable for the further development of Kozhikode and nearby Railway stations, he said.

Along with the commeemorative function, an exhibition showcasing Indian railways' expansion and development would be held.

An 108-year old steam engine, which had been used for service on the New Jalpaiguri route in Darjeeling since 1892, would be the star attraction during the 125th anniversary celebrations.

The heritage locomotive, which was operational till 1998, was brought to the city from Golden rock railway workshop at Tiruchirappali in Tamil Nadu, after carrying out some work.
