Thrissur: Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Monday dismissed as 'unfounded and baseless' the criticism over Rs 100 delegates' fee fixed for the fifth edition of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK) to be organised by it here from Jan 15.
Akademi's Secretary Dr P V Krishnan Nair told reporters here that the delegates fee was fixed with bona fide intention and there was no mala fide as was reported in a section of the media.
He said in fact the delegates' fee had been reduced to Rs 100 per head from Rs 200 last year with a view to creating awareness among the common man as part of creating a theatre culture.
The presence of the paying delegates would lead to improvement in the quality of the theatre, he said.
He said the total expenses incurred for the last year's festival was Rs 1.25 crore.
Troupes from 12 European countries would perform 15 dramas in the festival and in all 32 dramas would be staged in the nine-day event, Nair added.
