Afghan students picked up by police

Kochi: Five Afghan students, who arrived here after a visit to Munnar, a hill station on the Western Ghats in the Idukki of Kerala, were taken into custody after they were found not having passport and visa documents, police said.

The five are students of a college in Bangalore.

After visiting Munnar, they arrived at Fort Kochi and tried to take a room in a lodge. When they were asked to show their documents, they said they had left it in the college. The lodge owner got suspicious and informed the police.

The students have been sent to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) at Nedumbassery airport for further questioning, police said.
