Salem: Rs 47 lakh was Sunday seized and two persons, including an engineer from Malappuram district in Kerala, were handed over to the Income Tax department for questioning, railway sources said.
27-year-old engineer Hasip Alpha Bakker was waiting at the station here to hand over the money to one Muthappa travelling in the Kerala Express train.
When railway police personnel questioned Muthappa, he claimed he was en route to Kerala to buy a ship, Salem railway police inspector Manikandan said.
Both were handed over to Income Tax department personnel and a probe is on to ascertain if it was 'hawala' money, IT sources said.
