Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Ommen Chandy on Wednesday said he was not aware of any agreement reached between the NSS and the Congress High Command.

Briefing to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Chandy said the reply given by Ramesh Chennithala on the issue was right.

“I had met Union Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh many times. But he did not mention anything about the political deal with the NSS,” Chandy told reporters.

“Congress is a party with a secular image. Being the president of the party, Ramesh Chennithala has been raising the same ideology. He is not a person with one day experience in politics. He does not need anybody’s help to contest in the election,” he said.

The NSS has been up in arms as it has felt that the majority Hindus and Nairs have been left out from plum cabinet and other crucial posts.

NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair had Sunday accused the Congress-led UDF Government led by Oommen Chandy of "upsetting the communal balance" in governance and made a strong pitch for installing KPCC chief Ramesh Chen nithala in a key position in the ministry.

Addressing the 'Nair Mahasammelanam" organised here by the NSS, Nair had alleged the Congress leadership went back on the promises it made to the outfit on the eve of 2011 assembly polls.
