Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan asked P.J. Kurian to step down as Rajya Sabha deputy chairman in the wake of statements from the victim.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Achuthanandan said the Chief Minister's statement defending Kurien was highly unfortunate.
Stating that the Chief Minister cannot ignore the statement by the victim, he has sought to appoint a prosecutor as per the suggestion of the victim.
The Chief Minister, who was supposed to act impartially, should not have come out with such a statement, he said.
The Government should take a stand favourable for a reinvestigation into the case, he added.
