MediaOne TV channel launched

Kozhikode: 'MediaOne', the Malayalam television channel by renowned Malayalam daily 'Madhyamam' and operated by Madhyamam Broadcasting Limited, was launched by Defence Minister A K Antony at a gala function held at Swapna Nagari here at 4.30 pm Sunday.

Mediaone, the next phase of an experiment as Madhyamam calls it, comes as the fulfillment of a long cherished need just like the Madhyamam daily. Aimed at promoting an alternative media culture that strengthens human values, it pledges to oppose injustice, violence, communalism with each and every visual and sound; and to promote healthy dialogues that help to know each other.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy delivered the inaugural address while leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan inaugurated the studio complex and industries minister P K Kunjalikutty inaugurated the news studio at the function.

The infotainment channel will be turned into a full-time news channel following the launch of MediaOne Life, a fulltime entertainment channel to come soon. Dr Abdussalam Ahmed, Managing Director of MBL has said that there are also plans to start MediaOne Global for Non-Resident Indians.

Established in 1987, Madhyamam has within two decades added 11 editions in India and nine in the Middle East, where it is the largest circulated international Indian newspaper.

The main Studio is located at Velliparamba, Kozhikode. Mini news studios of the channel are available in all the major cities of the country.
