Nilambur: Kerala police personnel and specially trained commandos Sunday carried out combing operations at Pookottampadam, 7 km from Nilambur police station in Malappuram district, following reports that some strangers were sighted close to the forest area.

Some local people had reported that strangers were sighted in the colonies adjacent to forest areas, police said.

Police personnel and the 'Thunderbolt' commandos carried out combing operations for the sixth day in the forest areas of Kannur and Wayanad districts on the Kerala-Karnataka border in the wake of reports of Maoists presence in the area.

Police are keeping a strict vigil, sources said.
