Thiruvananthapuram: Police Sunday filed a case against 111 people for allegedly posting defamatory remarks against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien on Facebook over the Suryanelli gangrape case.
Cases were filed over a complaint filed by Mahila Congress leader Bindu Krishna, with the cyber cell of State police.
The FB users have been booked under section 66 A of IT Act which pertains to the act of "sending messages, or any information, which is grossly offensive, menacing and causes annoyance or hatred, by means of a computer resource or communication device".
It is a bailable offence which can fetch the accused a jail term of up to three years, if proved.
The victim of the 17 year old case had named Kurien as one of the accused in the horrific incident. She had also lodged a police complaint insisting that Kurien be made accused.
