Kalpetta: The District Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced to death the two accused in the abduction, rape and murder of Anitha, twenty -year-old college student.
The court had on Monday convicted the two accused, Kalathil Nassar, 37, of Thariode, and Abdul Gafoor, 31, of Padinjarathara, for the murder that took place inside the reserve forest area at Appapara near Tirunelli on August 9, 2011.
Delivering the verdict, Judge M K Sakthidharan said the accused, were found guilty of the charges of conspiracy, abduction, rape, murder and concealment of evidence.
The court had acquitted Vettikattil Muhammad, the third accused, for want of evidence.
According to the prosecution, Anitha, the daughter of Vishwanathan Nair of Anitha Nivas of Padinjarathara, was strangled to death after being sexually assaulted by Kalathil Nassar and Abdul Gafoor.
The victim, Anitha was a degree student of a parallel college in Mananthavady.
She was in love with the first accused. Her decomposed body was found after 13 days.
