Railway budget: Kerala MPs to convey displeasure

New Delhi: A meet held at the home of Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Kodikunnil Suresh here Wednesday decided to convey their protest for neglecting the State in the Railway budget.

The MPs will officially convey the State’s displeasure writing to the Prime Minister, railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The State government had hope on some of the main demands it had put forth before the Union Minister during his visit to Kozhikode on January 2. However, none of them -- formation of a peninsular railway zone, steps to kick off the coach factory in Palakkad and wagon component factory at Cherthala – were given any mentioning in the budget.

Terming the budget disappointing, Kodikunnil Suresh said that the State needed to get what it deserved. He also said that the MPs decided to meet the Union Railway Minister following a direction by Defence minister A K Antony.

Meanwhile, Left MPs from the State led by P Karunakaran, staged a protest dharna earlier the day in front of the Gandhi statue in the Parliament compound.
