Sohan Roy, I.V.Sasi join hands to make film on Kuwait war

Thiruvananthapuram: Technology geek Sohan Roy and acclaimed director I.V. Sasi have joined hands to make a film on the 1990 Kuwait war.

The project, "Burning Wells", will primarily be an English film, and would be made in one Indian language, Roy, who directed the acclaimed "DAM 999", told IANS.

"We both have developed the synopsis of the new film and the script is getting ready. Once the script is ready, it would be sent to the 'script doctors' who work in Hollywood," said Roy.

The film's shooting would commence in 2017 and it would be ready for a global release in 2018.

"We have already secured the permission to shoot the film in Kuwait from the Kuwait government and now we are awaiting permission from the US Army," said Roy.

The budget of the film, the cast and the crew which would be from world cinema, has been pegged at Rs.75 crore as of now.

"The canvas is big and the film is being made for a worldwide audience. Hence, the making of the film would be world-class. There will be no compromises made on equipment and post production work," added Roy.

Roy's "DAM 999" stood a chance to feature in the best picture, best original song and best original score categories of Oscars in 2012, but had failed to secure a place in the shortlist.

Meanwhile, Sasi, 66, is one of the most popular filmmakers in Kerala. In a career nearing four decades, he has directed 170 films and he was largely instrumental in moulding the careers of superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal.
