The teaser of the much-awaited Netflix film Darlings was released on social media, and it has left people eager to watch the film. Alia Bhatt and Shafali Shah look like they are ready to redefine their already excellent acting abilities.

The short video introduces the mother-daughter duo played by the two actresses. They are in Mumbai and are trying to find their footing. The teaser and the voiceover hint at their plans for survival in the patriarchal society.

Two men played by Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew are also seen in the teaser. They are suspicious of each other. At the end of the teaser, it is revealed that someone is dead and the women are suspects. However, it is unclear who the victim is.

Even the police officer is irritated at the apparent innocence of Shah and Bhatt as they claim they only killed the victim in their imagination. The witty appearance of the two women promises an interesting performance wrapped in black humour.

The voiceover narrates the famous Russian tale of a scorpion seeking help from a frog to cross a river. Halfway through the river, the scorpion stings the frog and justifies its action by saying that stinging is in its nature.

In the final frame, Alia also appears to be embracing her true nature.

Darlings marks the feature film debut of director Jasmeet K Reen. The film is produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Gaurav Verma. It is also Alia Bhatt's debut as a producer under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions.

The film will start streaming on Netflix on August 5, 2022.
